چکیده

Photoinduced electron transfer from an excited donor molecule (oxacyanine) to an acceptor molecule (viologen) located at the same interface in monolayer assemblies has been studied by measuring steady state fluorescence quenching and the excited state decay of the donor molecule. Donor and acceptor molecules are incorporated in matrix monolayers of arachidic acid and methyl arachidate, with a molar ratio 9:1. It is seen that the electron transfer efficiency increases with increasing donor density (a~ = 0.005-0.425 rim-2). The fluorescence decay functions of the donor are described by assuming at least two fluorescent species and the results show that the contribution of long-lived species increases with increasing donor density. The average rate constant for the excited state electron transfer depends on the donor density and was found to be 2 x 10 s st (as = 0.025 nm2; ad = 0.005 nm2). The results are rationalized in terms of energy delocalization via incoherent exciton hopping.

Molecular-level interactions of an azopolymer and poly(dodecylmethacrylate) in mixed Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films for optical storage.

The applicability of azopolymers in optical storage can be extended through the use of nanostructured films produced with the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, but the film properties need to be optimized since these polymers generally do not form stable Langmuir films to be transferred onto solid substrates. Here, photoinduced birefringence was investigated for mixed Langmuir-Blodgett films fr...

Photosystem I in Langmuir-Blodgett and Langmuir-Schaefer monolayers.

Photosystem I (PSI) is a membrane protein complex that generates photoinduced electrons and transfers them across the thylakoid membrane during photosynthesis. The PSI complex, separated from spinach leaves, was spread onto the air-water interface as a monolayer and transferred onto a gold electrode surface that was precoated with a self-assembled monolayer (SAM). The electrochemical properties...

Photoinduced Morphological Changes and Optical Writing in a Liquid Crystalline Polymer on the Micron and Sub-micron Scale

In this paper we describe our recent work on optical effects due to photoinduced molecular reorientation in a side chain liquid crystalline polymer, namely azopolymethacrylate (PMA4). We have studied several kinds of optical effects on space scales ranging from the nanoscopic to macroscopic. In particular, we have built a computer controlled microscope-based apparatus to study photoinduced effe...

Advantages of the Biomimetic Nanostructured Films as an Immobilization Method vs. the Carbon Paste Classical Method

Tyrosinase-based biosensors containing a phthalocyanine as electron mediator have been prepared by two different methods. In the first approach, the enzyme and the electron mediator have been immobilized in carbon paste electrodes. In the second method, they have been introduced in an arachidic acid Langmuir-Blodgett nanostructured film that provides a biomimetic environment. The sensing proper...

Organization of spin- and redox-labile metal centers into Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films.

New sal₂(trien) ligands that contain alkoxy substituents of various length in meta position of the phenolate entities were coordinated to electronically and magnetically active iron(III) and cobalt(III) centers. The electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of these amphiphilic complexes are virtually unaffected upon alteration of the alkoxy substituents, thus providing a system in which the...
